City water personnel, have you ever had a defective water meter that registered way more water usage?

I live by myself & for years I always used 1000 gallons a month. Then one day the city decided there must be something wrong with it & replaced it. Now for the past 6 mths they say I've been using 3000 a mth. Not possible. This is my everyday routine. I flush the toilet about 6 times a day, I wash dishes once a week in the sink, not the dishwasher, I take a shower every 3 or 4 days, & I change the birdbath twice a day. That doesn't add up to more than 1500 a month for sure in the summertime & even less in the winter time. I've already checked the main line for leaks & fixed minor toilet leaks months ago.

How did you check for leaks? The water meter should have a small red needle. Any amount of water flow will make that needle turn. Watch it for a few minutes and see if it is moving when you know everything in the house is off.

Call the water dept and explain it to them. See if they will replace it again or at least check it .
