What if a witness lies on a police report?
I have a hypothetical question.
Let s say there s a couple, a man and a woman, and the man picks a fight on someone. He either throws the first punch, intimates someone, gets in their personal space, and in the act of self defense, the victim strikes back, or knocks the guy out.
If the only witness if the attackers girl friend, and she lies in the police report saying her boyfriend did nothing wrong, and that it was in fact the victims fault, what would happen.
That would be 2 against one. Would the police have to take the side of the couple?

The police might be inclined to take the girlfriend's statement into account, but they know too that couples often lie for each other. If I was the guy alone my strategy would be to offer to take a polygraph, on the provision the couple both take one too. They can't be compelled to take a polygraph, however if you offer and they refuse it gives the police a good indicator of who is lying.

One reason we have trials is that SOMEONE is usually lying in most cases. The jury is charged with deciding who is more credible.
