If you use a credit card online, can you still use it to buy groceries?

So I've just activated my new debit card and I haven't used it yet. I was thinking about buying something online, but I'm not so sure because I'm afraid it wouldn't allow me to buy stuff like groceries, etc. outside of the internet. I'm new to this debit card thing, so I'm hoping to get answers from people who have been using a debit card for years.

You can do anything you want with the card at any time you want. The only limitations is that you have enough money in the bank to cover your debit card purchase (or enough credit limit to cover your credit card purchases).

Why would it not allow you to buy groceries just because you use the card online? You can use your debit card anywhere debit cards are accepted, which is pretty much everywhere these days. Using your card online will not lock it out of being used anywhere else.
