Ive been recently informed of a hold charge of 176.63 held by us customs. Is this real or is this completely fake?

if it is from US Customs, you were informed via a letter on official government stationary of the situation. If you received this from any other means, it's a scam.

Sounds like a scam to get money. Are you expecting a package? No. Did the message address you by your real name, your email name or just Dear Friend? There are clues.
