What are some unique/ strange places to visit in southern California?

My summer break is almost over and I haven't done anything super fun. My mom said we could go on a drive somewhere but I'm not sure where to go within southern California area. My mom doesn't like to drive too far.. at most 2 hours :p but I'm thinking of some places that are not surrounded by 'city- life' type of stuff...more so things out in the open that are strange and different.

Your mom doesn't like to drive 2 hours "from where"? Yesterday I drove UCLA to CSULB (33 miles) and it took 1hr 50mins.

You understand that Southern California is populated from the Mexican border past Santa Barbara (200 miles) and about 70 miles inland. Although, it's going to be a "bit" hard to get away from "city life", there are plenty of places to go hiking.

Have you ever gone to the Hollywood Bowl on a Friday or Sat night in the Summer = it's the best!

Have you gone to the Orange County Fair. It's on until August 16 and one of the best fairs in the county.

Maybe you want to spend the day in a cute beach community like Seal Beach or in Solvang.

Jump in a plane, no driving envolved and go someplace. Las Vegas, Hawaii? Camping @ Joshua Tree National Park!
