Windows 10: Why can't I import photos from camera?

I have a D5100 Nikon and when i connect it to my PC via USB, a box pops up telling me the computer can't find the device. When I try to open up the D5100 through "This PC", it says there are no files on it. I have never had a problem with my camera before and importing to any other computer.

Use a USB card reader to connect the camera's memory card to the computer's USB slot directly then use Windows Explorer to do the copying for absolute total control over what goes where exactly and avoid having the pictures modified unknowingly by a graphics application. This is the only method recommended by both photography and computer experts and it completely resolves all camera to computer connection problems so if you're not doing this yet, you should start it now.

You obviously do not read this Yahoo answers in cameras enough. The use of that USB cord that came with the camera prepares a person for a mental hospitol. Get a memory card reader for about $6.00 bucks. Insert the memory card into the reader than insert that into an availbe USB out let.
