Windows 10: Why can't I import photos from camera?

I have a D5100 Nikon and when i connect it to my PC via USB, a box pops up telling me the computer can't find the device. When I try to open up the D5100 through "This PC", it says there are no files on it. I have never had a problem with my camera before and importing to any other computer.

    Maybe it needs a new driver for that version of Windows?

    If Windows 10 has a Windows 7 emulation mode, try that.

    Use a USB card reader.
