Can I get an annual physical without the pelvic exam?
Hello,
I need to see a new doctor. They will probably want to do a physical on my first visit. I would be seeing a certified nurse practitioner specializing in family medicine. I am fine with a new patient exam, but I was wondering if I could skip the pelvic exam until I know she is the right provider for me. I'm not saying I won't ever get one, but I am just wondering if I could postpone it for a future visit. How do I tell the office I would like to skip this portion?

Honestly just say that you'd rather not do that part of the exam right now. It may not even be a part of the overall physical as you can have one's that just test for the rest of your body.

Of course you can skip it. It's usually a separate appointment for a woman's wellness check. Just specify when you make the appointment. No one is going to make you do that. :)
