Glasses or GP lenses this year?
So it's that time of year again for an eye exam. So I want to get a few opinions. I'm contemplating whether to get a new pair of glasses or fitted for gp lenses. Those are the options. I've tried soft contacts (toric, I have an astigmatism), and they're okay, but overall I'm not satisfied. After a couple of hours they make my eyes feel itchy and dry. My doctor thinks that it's due to mild dryness of the eye and that other soft lenses won't make a difference. He said I could try punctal plugs (soooo not doing that), or ridged gas permeable lenses.
So what you guys think? Should I give them a try, or just get a new pair of glasses? I really want to wear contacts, but like I said the soft ones aren't really working for me. My doctor's confident they aren't hurting my eyes, but I just don't like wearing them enough to do it often. I've only gone through a 6 month supply in a year.
(p.s. I'm aware that the gp lenses take a while to get used to.)

I know the dryness may be an issue with gp lenses too, but they might work out better because they're not hydrophilic. I use eyedrops with my contacts frequently. They don't help for long. I have really efficient tear ducts. I'm still on the fence about it. I'm not really a switch frames kinda girl. I like basic black, square frames, with transition coating. Might be interested in rimless.
But it's an either-or situation. My insurance will only cover one or the other, and I can't afford to go out of pocket. The lens fitting is $250 without insurance (and then I have to buy the lenses), and the glasses are well over $500 without insurance (they'd be a lot cheaper without transition coating, but....well I guess I'm spoiled).
The reason I want to wear contacts so badly is that I feel my vision is a lot better. I have a pair of glasses and contacts, both in my current prescription, and the difference is noticeable.

To be honest with you I don't see that you really have much of a choice. It is clear that your eyes are just too dry to wear contacts and your not the first one to have that problem. Also because of your astigmatisms your limited with available contacts for that. You need toric lenses and only few brands of toric. I can tell you that gas perm lenses are really uncomfortable and would probably be even worse than the soft lenses that you have now.
So I really think you need to stay with glasses. I have yet to see a even one young lady that isn't every bit as attractive wearing glasses as she is without her glasses. By now everyone you know has gotten very used to seeing you wearing glasses I really doubt that wearing glasses has hurt your social life. In fact many boys find girls wearing glasses very appealing.
I am not sure where you have been getting your eyewear from but they seemed extremely over priced. You can go to a good number of places for a contact exam and fitting for under $100.00. And $500.00 for glasses even with the transition lenses is out of line. You need to shop around before you get your eyes examined this time. As far as glasses is concerened and since you don't have insurance you really need to check out some of the on line retailers for your glasses. My personal choice is Zenni (zennioptical.com) Thye offer well over 800 pairs of glasses for women for under $17.00. If you add in AR coating (anti-reflective) they would be $22.00. Zenni lso offers transitions but the added price is only $34.00 so your total price for glasses would still be around $56.00. But you really might be better ff just getting 2 pairs. One regular glasses and one rx sunglasses because that would be even cheaper. More around $44.00 and the rx sunglasses is better than the transitions are.

I would say glasses, just because you can switch frames up to match outfits and they look cute as hell. If you really want contacts, go for it. Try out which would be comfortable if that is the case. If every type of contact still makes your eye dry/itchy, it's normal. You just need to keep contact eye drops with you and keep your eyes hydrated.
