I'm pretty sure Nintendo just wanted to try something new and figured that the motion-tracking system of the 3DS console wasn't used enough, so that's probably why they did the Inkay evolution thing
In my opinion, yes, it's stupid and kinda pointless, but with so many of the evolutions being the same, they did add something new to the game

My opinion, is that all Pokemon games, generation 5 and over are stupid, Nintendo has lost the plot with the series.
The Pokemon games finished with Gen 4, as far as I'm concerned, WTF is the deal with making an 'ice cream cone' Pokemon?
