If we ban guns it will still be easy to get guns. So if we ban abortions...?

You are getting worked up over nothing. Nobody is going to bad guns or abortions in the current political climate. It would take a massive sea change before such an outcome would be plausible.

Per guns, the US has long borders and active trade through which it is easy to move goods and people. If you ban guns, law-abiding gun owners won't have them, but criminals buying on the black market will. Perhaps slightly less, but they will still have them.

Further, 3D printers have advanced to the point where you can manufacture most of a gun that way, and all you need to do is manufacture a steel barrel to finish it off, a skill most high school shop students have. As 3D printers become ubiquitous...and they are on their way...banning guns will become meaningless.

Abortion was banned prior to 1973 in the US, so we know pretty well what that meant. It meant illegal, untrained hacks performing abortions. It meant infections, permanent damage, and sometimes death. Ever see the movie Dirty Dancing? That scene with the coat hanger abortion gives you a pretty good idea what was going on.

And that was when there was a HUGE social stigma about abortion. If you tried to re-ban abortion, with the social stigma eroded, it would happen WAY more often.

Women were getting abortions when they were illegal. Part of the argument for legalizing them was to protect the health of the women from unsanitary and unsafe abortion practices.

A gun can be made with a minimum of tools. The Sten gun was made for fifteen dollars a copy and could be made by a "Cottage industry". Carbine Williams who earned that name because his design was used for the M1 Garand constructed the prototypes in prison against the rules undetected.

In the end banning guns and banning abortions has the same effect in the area of discussion. Women who want abortions will get them- those who want guns will still have them.

No one is seriously looking to ban all abortions. There is discussion of limiting 2 and 3 trimester abortions, and ending the already illegal selling of fetal body parts.

Guns take a factory to manufacture. Abortions take a desperate woman and an untrained person with a few utensils.
