And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God?
This verse caused a argument at family get together. More liberal family Christians claimed this applies to today's wealthy Christians. Family members who attend fundamentalist churches claimed it that Jesus wasn't talking about wealthy Christians that follow gods words.
The fundamentalist ended up storming out claiming you can not be a real Christian if you are against Christian wealth.
To be fully forth coming I am an atheist but would like to understand these Christian beliefs.

The instructions given by Jesus were directed, not to everyone, but to this individual specifiably because Jesus knew him personally. This young man was soliciting an endorsement of approval from Jesus. However, the subsequent verses are directed to all. A rich man can enter the Kingdom.
However, Jesus does want us to know that it is harder for a rich person to enter the kingdom. The example he gave about the camel and needle eye refers to a gate entering the city of Jerusalem called the "needle-eye". In order to enter this gate the rider of camel must dismount and the camel must crawl through on its knees. So its not impossible, but harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom.

Matthew 19: 24 ....."eye of a sewing needle", meaning putting riches before The All Mighty God, Jehovah.

The eye of the needle was the name of a gate going into Jerusalem. It was open after hours, but in order to get your camel to go through, you would need to unload it of all of your riches and treasures.

The eye of the needle was a city gate a camel would barely or not be able to fit through.

Depends upon you reading comprehension skill. In the story, the rich man says "No, I think I would rather be rich and keep my stuff", and then Jesus says "If you would rather be rich in stuff than rich in the holy spirit, that is fine, but this guy is only rich in one way" The implication is that if you are generous and lawful and loving you can have both.
