No they are not. Whenever anyone claims that religion was created to control the masses, I ask them who created it and why it doesn't seem at all that they'd gain anything from it. I mean if you believe that Jesus is a dead human being and not divine.(He's easily one of the most popular religious figures around) Kind of hard for a dead and rotting man to control your mind. If you're going to say that the pastors are controlling us and making us give them all of our money, well the majority of them are not televangelists and there is also the manner of conversion. Many convert and then find a church to go to, so its hard to believe that the pastor had some sort of grand scheme to get this particular person's money. Then there's the fact that there are so many different religions. What was the mastermind thinking when he devised atheistic religions, pantheistic religions and new age religions? wouldn't it be more effective to gain control of the masses by using just one?

Some, but not all, emotionally-wounded people will say yes.

Some malicious people will say yes.

Some, lacking intelligence will say yes, and some easily led will say yes

But in truth NOT all forms of religion are mind control, and it is folly to claim they are.
