I need a guide for Star Wars?

Hi.

Let me get straight to the point, I have not seen any Star Wars movies, and I wasn't really planning on watching it.

But recently I saw the trailer for Star Wars Battlefront thats coming out soon and it looks AWESOME! Even though I'm not exactly a fan of the franchise, the game looks epic. I plan on buying it, but I dont want to play the game without having any knowledge of the Star Wars universe.

So I need a guide/list of Star Wars movies/animated series that I can watch to understand the story.

I know that I should have seen the series by now, but hey, better late than never right?

PS: If there is a movie and animated series that covers the same story, then I would prefer watching the animated series.

Update:

Also, pls name the movies that I should watch, and the order in which I should watch them.

There are the six live action movies, and there are a few animated series that cover what happened between certain movies.

I think you should watch it in the order it came out, 4, 5, and 6, then 1, 2, and 3.

I say this because 4,5,6 are a story and 1,2,3 is how the story came to be.

And the animated series are The Clone Wars, which take place between 2 and 3, then there is Star Wars: Rebels, which takes place between Ep. 3 and 4.

There's also the original Clone Wars from 2003, which you can watch on youtube. It's got a nice Samurai Jack-feel to it.

Some will recommend the "Machete Cut", which if I'm not mistaken would have you view the episodes in this order: 4 5 2 3 6 (skip 1). Once I get my hands on the prequels I intend to give this a whirl.

Some will have you avoid the prequels all together. I don't blame them.

I've seen them all. I agree that the prequels aren't as good, but I still think they all should be watched. Maybe go with episodes 4-6 and then 1-3.

I haven't watched any of the animated series but I don't think any of them cover the same story as the movies, at least not directly. I could be wrong though.
