Are Jehovah's witnesses crazy?

I know you will think that I am crazy for saying this but there is some truth in your step mother's claims. There are many video games that display images of actual demons and many draw gamers into a dark world.

Some have the same effect as Ouija boards and other occult games that lead to spiritual affliction and even demonic possession

I've seen too many creepy supernatural occurrences to ignore the possibility. Please be careful. Such games are more for your moral depravity than for your entertainment

Many JWs - especially the older ones - have this kind of demon paranoia.

During the 1980's JWs were obsessed with demons. JWs were labeling movies, music, rock bands and even toys as being demonic. There's even an infamous JW urban legend from the 80's about a smurf toy that came to life at their meeting and spoke some obscenities and walked out of their kingdom hall.

Many older JWs still have the demon paranoia of the 80s within them and it only takes an experience like seeing a magic-themed toy, hearing a snippet of a heavy metal song, seeing a short clip of a video or game with "scary" stuff or magic and the demon paranoia comes a bubbling to the surface to make them act like a delusional, judgmental, superstitious fool.

By playing those types of games, you're inviting negative influences into the home. Probably the way she approached the situation was not the best way because she threw your game away without discussing it with you. However, it's her home and you need to respect how she feels, especially after her scary experiences. Demons are no laughing matter. They're evil, spirit beings--a lot stronger than humans.

She needs serious help. There's a reason why people in insane asylums are screaming about demons, or how they're actually jesus. Religion takes unstable minds, and gives them a false reality to pervert.

I hate to add to your step-mother's problems, but the internet is full of demons too. Your participation on the internet might further exacerbate her demon problem.

ACTUALLY, Caribbean Man was spot on with his answer. My JW mother (of that generation) was constantly spooked by demons. One time when I was a kid she had me burn a pile of clothes she bought at a yard sale because they contained demons. "Say a prayer before you light the match. SAY A PRAYER FIRST!!!"

She is an "imperfect" person just like you and I. However, I have the feeling that she does love you despite it all. Regardless of her religion or lack of one, I truly hope that you both learn to communicate, and I hope that you learn more about WHO Jehovah really is. Ask yourself a question: WHY are you not having a bible study to learn for yourself? Do you think that strangers on Yahoo really care for you and are giving you the BEST answers? Think about it.

She's right you know? Except rather than the games bringing demons in the home, it's probably you bringing them in.

JWS are a sect and they are a cult. They believe none of the basic tenants of Christianity and are not Christians. Sects are evil and we need to pray for them. This lady you speak of should be seen by a mental health professional and your father needs to make that appointment and take her. She needs to see a doctor and many in that religion do see mental health doctors. So she is not alone.

All religious people are out of touch with reality. Some groups are more out of touch with reality than others. Basically, their fundamental assumptions about reality are false so they come to false conclusions.
