Girl help!! Periods and moms?

So I m 13 and well my mom said I can use tampons and she brought the topic up we went out and got them together but now I am going to an acro workshop where I want to wear tampons but I m scared because I never have.. Will it hurt to put it in is it uncomfortable does it hurt to take it out ect. I want to be able to ask my mom this stuff, but inalso want to ask her if I should even wear a tampon, but I don t know how to start the convo, I know what I want to say, "hey mom so I think I m gonna start my period at the acro worksho, and I was wondering if I should wear tampons or pads, then I would get in to reasonings but I always seem to chicken out, is there a better way to start the conversation, and I don t want to leave a note or message her.. Btw this is my 7th cycle!

Girl talk here we go. Tampons are honestly the best. Periods in general suck, but tampons make everything a lot easier- in my opinion. They are definitely weird the first time. I got my period the day I was going to a pool party, so I had to learn right away. There's definitely a learning curve to it. First off, read the instructions that come in the box. I like plastic applicators the best, because they're easy and comfortable compared to those icky cardboard ones.

I hope this isn't weird to go a little in depth with, but I had to learn myself through trial and error- and I wish someone had told me all this. You want to tilt the applicator back just a tiny bit when you put it in, towards behind you. This makes it a lot easier in the long run, because I've noticed sometimes they get a little crooked or sideways once you push the plunger up. You've gotta make sure you get the tampon 'in' enough, or they'll feel uncomfy otherwise. Ew, right? Being a girl sucks sometimes. Sometimes you've gotta adjust them a little so they're more straight, if that makes any sense. You'll be able to feel. Idk, I really hope this isn't weird but I think this is important stuff.

They aren't uncomfortable to take out if they've been in use for an hour or two+, but dry ones (ew, ik) sometimes are a little bit. Not like pain, just like the kind of feeling that makes you make a face. It'll feel weird at first. Just make sure it's in enough. I can't stress that enough. Don't be scared. As long as some string is out, you're safe. They aren't uncomfy once you get used to it, and I promise in a couple of hours you actually can forget. (Except don't do forget completely. Change them frequently, like every 4-7 hours)

Wear a pantyliner, I suggest, just in case there's a leak. Tampons are so much nicer than pads too because there's less to worry about. Pads are gross honestly and there's many more accidents waiting to happen with them, so I usually like pads around the house or when I'm not doing much. But if you're going to an acro workshop, tampons are probably your best bet.

Moms are cool, and they'll understand. She went through the same thing, so you've just gotta bite the bullet and ask her about it. She loves you and cares about you and all that other cheesy stuff, so she'll help you out. I think I covered most of the weird questions that would be awkward to ask her, so I think I saved you some uncomfortable conversations, lol. Hope this helps x

Your mom will understand, try not to feel awkward she has been through this. If I were you I would wear a pad incase you start and bring tampons also, so you have both options.

Just approach her and said mom I was worried about my shop and started packing and need you help

She is your mom and loves you and don't made it weird to talk to her or it always will be

it should not hurt, it would just feel weird like you might feel like you have to pee.
