Is this method going around Facebook of using Tea Tree Oil to prevent lice and mosquitoes a hoax?

This has been floating around Facebook and I was wondering if it actually works or if it is a bunch of baloney that Tea Tree Oil can keep lice and mosquitos away.

Insects are often repelled by volatile oils. I use a mix of peppermint oil and lemon balm oil to spray around plants outside as an insect repellent. It works well.

Can't see why tea tree oil wouldn't effective.
