Since the computer will be hopelessly obsolete by the time he actually needs a fast computer, speed doesn't matter. I'd find something cheap, that will play video games and can do some rudimentary computing chores. Most importantly, I'd find something so tough that it won't break the first time he sits on it or shatter when he gets pissed at you and flings it into a wall or pours KoolAid on it. Just make sure it looks cool and has colorful graphics.
