What's up with my phone?

I'm using an old Android as my phone (because I killed my old one by accident) and this thing is driving me nuts!!

It occasionally takes calls and messages but more often than not doesn't, and it ends up getting me in trouble! Any advice would be appreciated

Turn your phone off and back on at least once a day. This will reset your phone, just like you would do a computer. This is the only idea that I have, besides replacing your phone. I turn my phone off and back on at least once a week. Because if I don't I will not receive some calls or messages.
