My husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about fifteen years ago. He wasn't really hungrier than usual. However, he was always drinking something. If his glass became empty, he was filling with another drink. And he was using the bathroom about every two hours during the day and at night, he had to get up two to three times every night. The nighttime issues is what prompted him to see a doctor. He knew that getting up that often was not normal. When they checked, his sugar levels were close to 400.

My husband's nephew was diagnosed with diabetes as a young teen. I don't know all the issues he was having, but I do know that we went on a trip with his family and they had to make a bathroom stop every 45 minutes to let him use the bathroom. After that trip, the made an appointment to see the doctor and that is when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I don't know what his sugar levels were at diagnoses.

I am not diabetic myself. I just have close connections to several people who are diabetic. Most of them say that it was the urination issues that really gave them a clue that they had a problem.

I was peeing every 15 to 20 minutes, both during the day and through the night. I even had the occasional 'accident' with wetting my bed.

I was drinking 'like a fish' ... literally gallons and gallons of water, soda/pop, juice, etc. each and every day. The thirst was so great that I'd be stopping at taps (faucets) to drink from them directly.

I lost 27 pounds in 4.5 days ... that was according to my doctor's scales.

I was eating like it was an Olympic sport ... and I was winning. i.e. I'd eat my regular meals, stop off at shops to buy 'goodies', then stop to get pie and chips on my way out, and again on returning home.

When I was diagnosed, there was no such thing as a home blood glucose meter. Testing used to be via urinalysis. On being tested at the doctor's surgery, the solution turned bright orange, indicating that there was a high concentration of glucose present. My doctor wrote a letter to the local hospital requesting that I be admitted and tested for diabetes. I was started on insulin injections later that same day.

    Hello

I didn't. About 18 weeks ago I actually went in for a Lung Capacity test about 2 pm one day and they took blood whilst I was there. At 9 am the next day I was being told I needed to go see the doctor who informed me that I am type 2. He sent me to the hospital which I left about 4 pm with a Sugar Level test machine. I was told 5 to 10 was normal, I was 26, Within a week I was up to 32. after a drastic diet change and 3 weeks I was back within normal range, And have maintained that for the last 15 weeks. So far I am controlling it with Meds and Diet. If I carry on like that I will not need to go on Insulin.

Don't know how high my blood sugar was as I was only just turned 7 at the time and didn't understand what was happening. All I remember is that I was thirsty all the time, needed the toilet a lot (like literally every 15- 20 minutes), felt really tired all the time and had no appetite at all. My dad took me to see a doctor the day I was diagnosed as my mum had just had my sister a few days before, I remember coming home, him telling my mum and her crying, then they packed some of my things and took me to the hospital where I had some blood tests done and was stuck in there for 3 weeks, I honestly thought I'd never leave, lol.
