Is my chapter in my novel too long?

I am working on a chapter in my novel and it seems like it is getting too long, possibly.

So far it is 26 pages long and I feel like I won't finish it for another 9-14 pages which will bring it to around 35 to 40 pages long.

Is that too long?

    There are no rules on how long/short a chapter has to be. If your chapter needs to be 40 pages long, then that's perfectly okay. I have read books where each chapter was more than 100 pages long.

    That seems a little long to me. A chapter should be a scene. But for now, don't worry about it. I suspect you're still writing a first draft. Finish the whole novel before worrying about chapter length. There's a chance you might delete the whole thing anyway.

    There's no set numbers of pages or words for a chapter. Just let it be. It's fine. If you really feel that bad about it, separate it into two chapters.
