1. Does Windows always look at the HOSTS file before searching a DNS server? Yes/No?

2. How many entries can you have within a HOSTS file before it begins to slow down your system?

    1. The browser looks at the HOSTS file for where to look for the requested web address. If it is not in the HOSTS file then it goes to the default DNS.

    2. Don't know. I have several hundred entries but it doesn't seem slow.
