Funny, this just popped up as I'm listening to "Yes I'm Changing", a beautiful song by Tame Impala about how people change.
Very good question. I'm pretty sure science doesn't have the answer to this and doubt that it ever will, but I'd say don't worry about it. We humans seem to retain what makes us who we are even though we go through so many changes.
Memories, Interests, Values, Beliefs, and Likes seem to be things that though changeable often stay constant throughout one's life. Our biological makeup determines some things about us to a certain extent, and so does the environment we were brought up in. But like I said, don't worry about this too much.
