The character limit is so there are not page long questions.

You have 140 characters for the Question title where it says What's up?.

To add details to your Question click on Details. You Must do that before you Submit.

The character limit is 2500 Desktop. ... 1500 on Mobile.

Click Expand if you need a bigger page.

Once Question is posted you are allowed to make 5 updates using 500 characters.

To add those updates click the Blue Edit button under the Question and then Update.

I'm sure other sites have character limits too.

Twitter limits Tweet length to 140 characters. Tumblr adheres to a character limit

You can ask longer questions on Reddit. or Quora

WHY is this such an enormous problem for you ONLY on YA. Tweets have a a 140 character space limit, Are you whining on Twitter about why tweets have only 140 character spaces, NOT 150, are allowed... OF COURSE NOT. IF you want to ask a a longer question on YA. THAT IS WHAT THE DETAILS BUTTON IS FOR, but your mobile device HAS TO BE IN DESKTOP MODE. Apparently using the details button AND putting mobile devices is beyond BOTH the physical and mental capabilities of many YA users. If that is the case, WHY are you wasting your time ON YA whining about this. Stop wasting your time on YA. and give the rest of some relief from all your whining and complaining on another question and answer site which has PAID moderators, like Quora.
