How do i solve this math question?

(5)^2x - (7)^x - (35.5)^2x + (36.7)^x = 0

the answer is x=0.023

Please show your working clearly. Thank you in advance!

    You would have to use a numerical ('trial and improvement') method. ie Identify an approximate solution then iterate a suitable equation to improve accuracy.

    Note that x=0 is one solution because b^0 = 1 for all values of b, giving 1-1-1+1=0. This might be the only solution.

    Start by sketching or plotting the graph (Source). This shows that x=0 is indeed the only solution apart from x= -infinity.

    x=0.023 is incorrect.

  • I gotta tell ya, if there was a general method to solve a problem like a^x + b^x = c^x, then we'd have a lot more questions solved. It definitely wouldn't have taken 200+ years to figure out Fermat's Last Theorem.

    And really, that's pretty much what your problem amounts to.
