Should I just use the tampons or not?

So my mom bought me tampons, and she put them where her supply is because half is for her the other half is for me because it's different absorbency. Anyways I asked her if I should use them for dance and she said just use liners because you only really use tampons if you have a heavier flow... So I want to bring some to my camp just I case I get my period but idk if I should just take them or should I ask her if I should take them ?? the box hasn't been opened yet so she will be able to see if I used them also should I tell/ask her before using it or not?? It's also that it feels awkward to open the tmpon box so then she knows I tried it with out her knowing ... So what should I do??
