What long-short funds lived up to their promise of significantly outperforming the S&P500 during the 2008-09 crash, if any?

I'm willing to give up some upside in good years if a fund really will outperform in bad years, but all I can find is aggregate 10-year returns, which doesn't tell me when gains and losses occurred.

Thanks,

Houyhnhnm

Outperform the SP500? I can give you a very simple strategy to outperform it annually by 5-10% points. This means that if the SP500 goes up 10%, you will make 15-20%. SP goes down 15%, you will lose only 5-10%.

KNOWING "when gains and losses occurred" would be of no value to you anyway, silly goose....that would NOT help you identify which stocks will do well in some future turmoil, anymore than a list of past winning lottery numbers would help you predict future winning numbers!
