Question on Jennifer Lopez background?

Why does Jennifer Lopez call herself Puerto Rican if she wasn't born there? It is only a nationality not a ethnicity

Puerto Rican is an ethnicity.
It wouldn't be classified as a nationality considering that Puerto Rico is an unincorporated US territory. Puerto Ricans are natural-born citizens of the United States.
Jennifer Lopez might not be Puerto Rican (by birth, family lineage, etc.), but perhaps she identifies herself as Puerto Rican based on her social experience and cultural practice.
