Should I have an otoplasty?

I am 17 and have largish protruding ears I absolutly hate them! Everyone has always made fun of me for as long as I can remember. It is so bad that even my family makes fun of me. I don't consider myself an ugly person I just have prominent ears. Should I ask my mom if I could have the surgery or wait til I can pay for it? I have never had a boyfriend, and I was wondering if I should fix this before I go to college next year. Mom ease don't tell me to just deal with it I want real advice.

I am in a similar boat my friend. I have this weird cyst like thing on my nose and it's very upsetting. I saw a dermatologist and he said I could get it surgically removed through plastic surgery. So when I told this to my best friend I asked their opinion about it. Normally they tell me you don't need that you are beautiful, but I was shocked and a little annoyed/hurt that they said I should because it's kinda gross. Needless to say we have been fighting lately. But when he said that, I got so mad that I decided I will keep it just in spite. But a part of me is torn it has become a part of me and I should change myself just because other people want me to. I say who cares? It just goes to show how shallow people are toward you. Never change who you are. Then when you do find someone they will love you for all of you. Who knows that might be their favorite part about you because it's so unique.

My brother in law had the procedure, and I think he is happy that he did. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's not even like getting fake boobs, I think of it more as like getting braces.
