ten times the sum of half a number and 6 is 8?

    Le the number be 'n'

    half of 'n' = n/2

    Sum = n/2 + 6

    Ten times = 10(n/2 + 6) =

    Equals 10(n/2 + 6) = 8

    Multiply out the brackets

    10n /2 + 60 = 8

    5n + 60 = 8

    5n = 8 - 60

    5n= -52

    n = -10. 4

    10 (x/2 + 6) = 8

    10x/2 + 60 = 8

    Subtract 60 from both sides:

    10x/2 + 60 – 60 = 8 – 60

    10x/2 = -52

    Multiply both sides by 2

    (10x/2)*2 = -52 * 2

    10x = - 104

    Divide both sides by 10:

    10x/10 = - 104/10

    Answer: x = - 10.4

    10 x [ (a/2) + 6 ] = 8

    10a/2 + 60 = 8

    5a + 60 = 8

    5a = -52

    a = -10.4

    10 * (.5x + 6) = 8

    .5x + 6 = 0.8

    .5x = -5.2

    x = -10.4
