what age should a toy poodle be spayed (in scotland)?
a family friend has a puppy and she is too young to get spayed but is a little sex pest and last time she came over spent the whole time flirting with our male (neutered) dog and throwing herself at his feet and getting him to chase her (she was so concentrated on getting him to follow her she ran into a pole). our dog was getting really upset as he doesn't really understand what to do . the only times he has humped anything was one with another male dog and he humped his head instead of his rear and he has done it a couple of times with his bed. also he is a large airedale and she is a cocker cross cavalier so she is the same size as his head so if he worked out what to do he would crush her if he tried. our friends other dog is a basset hound and she apparently constantly flirts with him but he is more her size.
i am going to be getting a female puppy next year and i want to get her spayed as soon as possible so if she does turn out to be flirty he has to put up with it for as short a time as possible.
he also only humps his bed when it has just been washed as he loves a clean bed
im not asking for my friends puppy. im asking for when i get MY puppy

Although some vets prefer owners of medium to large size dogs to let them have one season before spaying (citing bone issues and the potential for spay incontinence if done early) that would depend on whether the owner can be SURE to keep the puppy confined for the entire 21+ days of a season. I'd suggest your friends get her spayed at some time around 6 months, but on the advice of their vet. I don't contribute to castrating males, other than for medical need, and certainly not at under at least a year but with bitches, not having to confine twice a year and risk mammary, ovarian or uterine cancer, or a pyometra makes spaying the only sensible option for a pet b itch.
Makes no difference where the b itch lives!

It sounds like she is a puppy and wants to PLAY with your dog, as puppies normally do. This is not flirting. Female dogs only ever mate when they are in the right part of their heat cycle. She should be spayed after she has gone through 1 heat cycle, and kept away from all male dogs while she is in season.

This puppy is NOT a little sex pest at all... she is simply playing and spaying won't make any difference to that at all. She does not need spaying until mature although they have to be responsible for her when she is in heat.

If you feel you must spay, which I don't condone unless medically necesarry IF you are responsible enough to keep your pets from breeding, then wait until she is fully mature. Usually after 2 years of age.

Missy is 100% correct. As far as you having all that experience you listed, you are a 21 year old, all one has to do is look at the rest of your questions to find out how much you really know about dogs.
Take the advice of adults who actually know what they are talking about, full stop, end of.

Six months, train your ill behaved dog and don't allow this poor behavior.
"he also only humps his bed" This is a training/behavior issue, spaying/neutering will not solve lack of training.
