USMC or Army personnel did having extremely strict supervisors/leadership ever make you scared to approach them on matters?

Just curious. Saw a few videos of just Marines and Soldiers getting absolutely sh*t on that were actually operational and not just in training over small things. Like failure to acknowledge a SNCO walking down the road or something minor.

Obviously being in the military standards of way different for civilians and it's not just any regular job, but I feel like it sets a bad impression on new guys that their leadership are just assh*les...

In the Air Force, if we make a mistake, we have a 1 on 1 with out direct supervisor, and if it continues it's paperwork, and I've rarely seen it go pass paperwork because you get treated like an adult and not a little kid and screamed at for a mistake you made.

I don't know, just seems like what some branches do as punishment isn't the best, but hopefully someone can give me a good response besides, 'The Air Force is just full of pus*ies that's why.'

There are certain times and places for certain actions. Sometimes, just pulling someone aside and doing a verbal counseling is all that's needed. Sometimes, a good smoke session will do the job. Sometimes, a paper counseling will work because now there's a paper trail. It all depends on the infraction, but also on the Soldier and how they learn. Some Soldiers will get it through their head faster if you smoke them, because they don't want to be smoked. For someone who loves PT, though, a smoke session is fun, so you need a different way to discipline them.

If it's a safety issue, I will be among the first to get on someone's @ss. I've even tackled officers at the range before, for being unsafe.

Barking at someone who didn't give you the greeting of the day is just being a d!ck.

At least in the Army, it appears as though the NCO Corps is at its lowest level. By Senior NCOs that condone, "smoking", The Army in general by lowering the standards to be an NCO and promoting soldiers that are not ready yet.

I am truly surprised that someone hasn't challenged the validity of the so called "smoke session" in that it could be considered punishment and no NCO is authorized to punish a soldier.
