Who sang the original 1960's song "It's The End Of The World As We Know It". not the remake by REM?
Sorry Uncle Dodge. I was born in 1950 and I loved the son when I was a kid. REM's remake is vary faithful to the original. close but no cigar.
Thanks Steve but I know that REM's is a remake. I looked everywhere, starting to wonder if they found and buried everything about the original. It wouldn't be the first time.

Perhaps you're thinking about this country pop song --
'The End of the World' (1962) by Skeeter Davis

www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSTHOqO6A7Q -- 1963 TV performance

If that's way off, I'm trying to find a 60s song similar to R.E.M's song (outside of 'Subterranean Homesick Blues').
Have any more clues? Is it a mainstream 60s artist or a one-hit wonder? What style? What period of the 60s?
Reunion's 'Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) is a really good guess.
I guess the only song I know (with a deluge of words) is this --

Though, how about Neil Diamond's song 'Done Too Soon' (1970)? --

The song is actually original. There are two songs that can take credit for how Michael Stipe came up with the lyrics and tempo:
Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues
Reunion - Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)
