What can I use instead of a comforter during summer?
I like the look of a comforter or duvet with all the accent pillows. Unfortunately, I live in a HOT climate and my window faces West, so the sun is blazing through into my room before bed. I have gone as far as putting foil over the Windows and it is still incredibly hot in my room. Hotter than any other area of the house. I can t sleep without being covered up and just using a sheet feels akward. What is a cooler alternative than a comforter or duvet that I can use in the summer months that still looks well put together? I am a younger guy, so quilts don t exactly look very masculine or contemporary in my opinion. Thanks!

What i do is at night i fold my comforter four times, each fold in a parallel direct to the head of my bed if that makes sense. Then i just sleep with my sheets and my comfrter is folded up at the end of my bed. Sometimes it falls off but its not hard to stick it back at the end of the bed and unroll it. Then im sure you could find some kind of cooling blanket to buy to weigh on you. What i do is i have a blanket but then i just turn my fan on, might wanna get a ceiling fan. Also, you might want to invest in some blinds or curtains.
If this is too expensive, just think of how long you will be living in this place. You planning on getting a new bed within the next few years? Or a new house? Even if you move you can still put back up the curtains. And your bed pretty much sticks with you in my opinion. If you are sweating so much and getting dehydrated plus disturbing your sleep, i think its worth it.

Just take the comforter out of the duvet cover and use the cover itself as a light bedspread. Or if you don't have a duvet cover, get one that you can use. It's like having a double layer of sheet over you, just the right weight in the summer.
Foil is not going to help cool your room -- it just acts as a heat sink. Get a roll of UV film for the window from Home Depot and cover the glass. Also, get a cheap dual fan that fits in the lower part of the window and a roll down shade. Keep the shade down in the daytime with the fan running on reverse to suck hot air out of the room. After sunset, turn the fan back to bringing cooler night air into the room. I had a bedroom in my last house like that, that faced due west. The window film made a huge difference. Ventilation is key to keeping the room cool once you have blocked the solar heat gain. Drapes with reflective lining and insulation can help too.

Your best bet would be a lightweight cotton blanket. Any synthetic blanket will not allow your body to breathe or wick away your perspiration. I have a very lightweight duvet sheet. It is very th.in and does not conduct enough heat to make me hot, in spite of it having a low amount of down feathers in it
You may want to invest in insulated window treatments which have thermal properties, such as roman shades or honeycomb blinds. They are a good investment and work well to control interior temperatures.

In the summer I use the comforter just to cover the bed so it looks put together. When I go to bed I pull it down and do not use it. I just use a sheet and found bamboo sheets keep me way cooler http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&... They wick moisture away and keep me feeling comfortable in the heat.

When its warmer I just use a red cotton oversheet, the type they put on top of beds in motels that goes over the layers of blankets.

Find a thin blanket that looks nice.
Also, putting foil on your windows will trap the heat in your room...
