What is the explanation behind a person being able to "sense" when a television is on even when it isn't make any noise?

    In "the old days" of CRT TVs, it was easy to hear the deflection yoke vibrating at the vertical (60 or 59.94 Hz, for B&W and colour respectively)

    and horizontal (15,750 or 15,734 Hz) sweep frequencies.

    I grew up with those sounds (1960s - 1970s)

    and still occasionally hear them.

    Plasma and LCD TVs don't make much noise at any audible frequency, so they are much more difficult to detect.

    That would be the "sense" of vision.
