Can the mind perceive or work independent of the consciousness?

In other words, what can be the nature of existence of the mind without the consciousness or does it exist at all?

And if the mind is the ultimate illusion then what makes it so real?

A dream is real, a real experience. It can't be denied. Dreams exist, but they are not as real as they seem to be during the dream. It is only after we wake up that we realize, it wasn't real. It was real, but only a dream.

Mind is a function of brain. There is consciousness, even without brain, because there is spirit, another dimension of existence. As spirit interfaces the physical world through life, we call human spirit and mind as if they are the same thing, but they are different. Both are consciousness. Mind has unconsciousness as well, processes outside our awareness, as well, motives outside our awareness, defense mechanisms. The consciousness of spirit does not have this.

    Of course. It's called "sub-conscious."
