I think I understand what you are trying to say and for a long time I used to see things that way. Do you mind if I present a different perspective?

Let's start with a simple question: What is the United States? Is it lines on a map? Is it a Republic? Is it "One Nation Under God, indivisible?"

As you might guess, there are several "definitions" but there is one common denominator. Do you know what that is? Some might say it is "freedom" or freedom to pursue happiness. That may be what attracts people from other nations, but that isn't the answer I'm looking for.

The common denominator to all definitions is that they are all "ideas." There is nothing wrong with planet earth. Any problems that exist are created by humans: our ignorance, hatred, jealousy, greed, superstition, etc.! We separate ourselves into things like nations, tribes, religions, etc., so that we can be surrounded by people with "like" ideas or so that we can FORCE certain ideas upon those that are around us.

Perfection is an illusion. And since humans aren't perfect nothing they create will be perfect including their nations.

To answer your question directly, this nation is no better or worse. We are merely more cognizant of problems that have always existed and this makes it "seem" worse. Cameras in cell phones make it easier to film injustice. The internet makes it easier to reveal corruption or for people to spew hatred and remain anonymous, but that doesn't change the fact the corruption or hatred was always there.

The world is the way it is, but the good news is that there is no "law of nature" that says this is the way it MUST be. One person does have the power to change it. Believe it or not, that one person could be you.

    Have a great life!

Obama is in the White House, food stamps are higher than ever, were $17 trillion in debt, he is pooping on the constitution, Muslims are invading us, and we lost our AAA credit rating

You're damn right there's a lot wrong with this country. But not the self-loathing "oh boo hoo we invaded Indians land" crap you were spoonfed

there are way many more than a lot of things wrong with it. enough where its time to maybe start looking for a new country to live in. this one is going down the drain. the problems starting from the top to the bottom are so out of control it truly is no longer funny.
