Can emailing someone who is attempting to scam you bad?
I have been emailing someone who I have found is attempting to scam me or perhaps something worse (dont really know what their angle is right now). By simply emailing them and NOT giving any personal information am I in any danger?
I appreciate all the answers but I was looking for something specific. I dont see how having my email opens me up to anything if I am just saying "hey hows it going."

I have to ask why you are in contact with them. Because by their even having your email address you are opening yourself up to further, and more clever scams. It really is never wise to keep a channel of communication open with someone like this, unless you are engaged in the act of taking them down. (And then you need to be fairly sure you can do it). So think of all the angles of scammers. Not just about your personal information, which you may not personally give, but which may become available to the scammer by other means, when you stay in touch.

You never know what kind of information someone can get with just your email address. Try Googling your email and see what comes up, you'll be surprised.
Regardless, stop all communications with this person and block them.

If you were using web mail such as Yahoo, dont worry. They cant attack your PC, Yahoo is running Norton Pro. They cant find out much about you unless you give them that info or its already online.
Just mark their address as spam, and in future dont open emails from people you dont know.

As long as you are aware of what you are doing here is no great harm in stringing them along. You may even get a book out of it...

There are groups out there that string the scammers along to waste their time. Don;t forget these people are crimminals and could come and hurt you.
