Private plate?

Update:

when you buy another car and you keep your private plate why is it when it comes back the name of the motor company you bought it from appears at the bottom of the plate.....I could have sworn this was not the case when I bought it from DVLA 5 years ago

DVLA don't issue the plates, just the paperwork.

All licenced number plate suppliers (could be a dealer, local motor factors, or a large car parts company such as Halfords) must by law put their name and postcode on the bottom of the plate, and have had to do so since the number plates changed from year-letters to year-number in September 2001. A plate without the plate maker's name and postcode is not legal on any car first registered on or after 1st September 2001.

For some time now, number plates in the UK have to bear the name of the company who made it.
