I'm considering buying a new laptop (Windows). Are there any new hardware developments on the horizon such that I should delay?

For example, the newest of the laptops I own was bought maybe 6 months before USB 3.0 was commonly available, and I wish I would have waited (I have a bunch of external 2 to 5 TB drives which would certainly benefit).

Update:

Yes, Dave, or should I say Captain Obvious. But there's not such an important difference between laptops from a year ago with what's available now.

Much depends on where you put the horizon. There is work going on to develop a fully capable computer in a cosmetic accessory, under voice (or perhaps thought ) control that goes far beyond present laptop, smart phone or tablet specifications. I have seen concepts in a hair clip and a belt buckle. It might be ready in as few as five years. Eyeglass frames are already being used for some applications. The wise ones say that no matter when you decide to hit the state-of-the-art curve, you will have reason for regret the next day. You may not like Dave's answer, but he is right. The question is "which corner are you talking about?"

There are advanced laptops now, but you must check the specs to get one. My requirement includes: small size (<12 in) convertible tablet with touch screen and stylus, HDMI, Blue tooth, USB 3, 8g memory and 500G SSD. Forego the optical drive for smaller size. I travel with in my camera bag and use it tethered as a monitor for my camera. Runs Photoshop great and composites huge panoramas. I have Dragon and should use it for voice control, but I haven't gotten the full hang of it yet. It's great for dictation and documenting the photographs, though.
