The Bible mentions tattoos just once, at Leviticus 19:28, which says: “You must not put tattoo marking upon yourselves.” God gave this command to the nation of Israel, thus setting them apart from the neighboring peoples who marked their skin with the names or symbols of their gods. (Deuteronomy 14:2) While the Law given to Israel is not binding on Christians, the principle underpinning this law is worth serious consideration.

Should a Christian get a tattoo or body art?

The following Bible verses can help you to reason on the matter:

Yes, if you notice in the Bible at Leviticus 19:28 it says “‘You must not make cuts in your flesh for a dead person, and you must not make tattoo markings on yourselves. I am Jehovah."

Then Romans 12:1 it says "Therefore, I appeal to you by the compassions of God, brothers, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, a sacred service with your power of reason."

we want to always live in a way that is acceptable to God but, tattoos are not the way to do it.

The fact of the matter the reason why tattoos are a sin is because you are created in the image of God, and your body is the temple of the living God, and you are not to mark the temple of the living God will sin. because God is a holy God and truth, that is why God word the bible is true only and all of the prophecy are coming true and all will be fulfilled before God Jesus Christ returns on the last day.

    Why are tattoos sinful?

---- Tattoos are sinful because Jews wanted a way to differentiate themselves from the Canaanite tribes (who used tattoos). So they banned tattoos.

It's thr same reason Jews practice circumcision.

(Sinful means "dead Jewish guys didn't like it.")

  • From a Christian perspective, I don't recall Jesus actually mentioning the practice. Your body should be the temple of God, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't decorate it. Those religious leaders who claim that anything not to their taste is sinful, may find themselves having to answer some embarrassing questions on judgement day.

Only tattoos for the dead are a sin.

I think the Old Testament had some rules about it. Nothing in the New Testament about it directly.

Proceed with caution. Most people come to regret their tattoos later.

Leviticus 19:28: "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord." Or "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord." https://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/lev/19.28?lang=e...

Also: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 [New International Version (NIV)] 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

    Hope that helps.

Its a vain act of flesh

Job 35:13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

It's like "Hey look at me, ain't I cool?"

No you aren't. Foolish and wasteful but not cool in the least.

If God had wanted ink on your body then he'd have made you a billboard.
