How do you write "A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor can man be perfected without trials" in traditional chinese?

Update:

I'm only able to find the first part of the proverb (玉不琢 不成器) but can't seem to find the second part.

Update 2:

I found something, but I am not sure if it is suitable to be translated as such: 人不磨练不成材
