A person walks 4 min to get supplies, then 2 min ro assemble. If you cut 3 min of walking time, how much more can you produce?

Answer is 50 percent

Update:

Well I was doing this multiple choice question on knowledgematters.com and I answered 100%, but then it turned out to be wrong. I wasn't sure if my were just not seeing the answer, or if the person who made the quiz made a mistake. It was probably a mistake.

Update 2:

*my eyes

Update 3:

Oh wait, I'm so sorry. I didn't describe the question correctly. The second part of the question goes..

"If you rearrange stockpiles to cut his walking time to two minutes".. so here's the full description

"Currently, one of your employees must walk four minutes to get parts that he then assembles in two minutes. If you rearrange stockpiles to cut his walking time to two minutes, how much more can he produce?"

    4 + 2 = 6

    1 + 2 = 3

Meaning, you can now do this walk, assemble, task twice. in the same amount of time as you used to do it once.

That is a 100% increase in production

Within a 6 minute period, you can complete 1 item.

If you cut walking time down by 3 minutes, each item takes 3 minutes to complete, so in that same time period you can complete 2 items.

That's an increase of 100%. I'm not understanding why the answer should be 50%.

    %change=100(final-initial)/initial....

final=1/(6-3)=1/3 and initial=1/6 (for production per minute) so

    100(1/3-1/6)/(1/6)=%change

    100(1/6)/(1/6)=100%

So you can produce 100% more or twice as much as you originally could NOT 50% more.

    check...

1/(6-3)=1/3 was the new production level

1/6 was the original production level

    (1/3)/(1/6)=(1/3)(6/1)=6/3=2

So you can produce twice as much....

A fifty percent increase would be:

    (1u/6min)(1.5)=1.5/6=3/12=1u/4min

It states that the final condition is 1u/3min which agrees with a 100% increase...

    (1u/6min)2=2u/6min=1u/3min
