What kind of secondary memory do cell phones use?

I know they don't have a hard drive but what is it that they have for offline storage? Like the iPhone for example which does not take a memory card?

Typically, they'll be using the same type of flash memory, that might be used inside a USB-stick, for instance. But mounted directly on the internal circuitry.

The iPhone can upload data to iCloud for storage and use it to restore the iPhone in the event of data loss. iCloud can also sync the data to other devices registered to the same Apple ID. Most cellphones can perform similar functions using a PC with wired, WiFi or Bluetooth capability.
