Confederate Flag- good or bad?

There are way too many arguments to state. Please give your opinion below.

Ps. Google how the Union treated immigrant during the war. Should we ban the stars and stripes by the same logic?

Save the flag Facebook page.

The Stars&Bars is not really the Confederate flag. It was adopted across the South, put on state flags, flown on state capitol grounds, only from 1962. It is a symbol of Southern resistance to Civil Rights legislation, to forced integration, NOT a symbol of the old Confederacy.

Here in California I occasionally see a Conf flag sticker on someone's pickup truck or motorcycle. Often I'll ask the guy what it means to him, what he's trying to get across by displaying it. I've never gotten a real answer! 'Uh . . . it means I'm a rebel' is about the best they can do. You and I (and that guy) know the symbolism of the US flag--what the stars stand for, what the stripes are, what the colors stand for. But people who fly the Stars and Bars don't. How can it be a symbol of Southern 'heritage' if they can't explain it?

If those are your only choices, you've missed the entire argument. It isn't good or bad. It's the hearts of the people who see it that make the determination.

I grew up in Mississippi in the 50's and 60's, not a time when things were peaceful. The flag can mean pride in a South that never existed other than in myth, it can mean racism, and it can be a warning of where government can go if we allow it. There are probably as many opinions as there are people.

In deference to those who are offended, I'd prefer that it just go away, but there's no sense getting in too big a huff or demonizing those whose opinion differs from yours.

Good. I'm a history buff and I have two, the traditional St. Andrews cross flag that most people call a Confederate flag and also a 2nd National flag, the one that flew over most of the battlefields of the war.

The Confederates explicitly stood for dominance of the white man over the "racially inferior" slaves. Jeffersons Davis' vice-president, Alexander Stephens, gave what has been deemed "The Cornerstone Speech", which sums up, in the eyes of some of the highest people in the Confederacy, that the Confederacy always stood for white supremacy.

The Union treated immigrants badly, but it wasn't the fundamental reason they were an independent country. Treating immigrants badly was a perversion of the ideals of liberty the country was founded on. The Confederacy was not founded on states' rights, it was founded on the right of people who could afford it to own slaves

the flag stands for history & heritage of traitorous losers

and at the end of the Civil War every one of those flags should have been burned and banned

Bad. Look up the declerations of secession. The confederacy was founded for the purpose of defending slavery and racism.
