Shorten or Lengthen Basic training/boot camp?

I can really only take it in perspective as an Airman and going through AF BMT, but I'm assuming Marines, Navy, and Army are pretty similar methods.

So, AF BMT it's 8.5 weeks.

Week 0-5 is drill mashed into your skulls until you master it, you do some SABC, SERE, and CBRN training. Practice hand to hand combat and rifle drills, basic customs and courtesies, PT everyday, uniform wear and UCMJ and so forth. Just your basics to make you an Airman in the modern Air Force.

So that's week 0-5.

Update:

Week 6-8 are

Week 6- BEAST week with putting what to learned to a very, very, very, vague simulation of deployment

Week 7- We get tested on PT, Drill, EOC, uniform inspection, wall lockers, and dorm inspections and drills

Week 8- Graduation

Update 2:

Once again, can only speak for AF perspective, but it seems like 8.5 weeks is a waste of money and time when it should be somewhere around 4-5 weeks of fast paced week 0-5 and then go onto your job training. Seriously now, 95% of what you learn in basic goes out the door once you arrive at your first duty assignment. What do you guys think?

All branches could drop it to five weeks ish if we had high quality intelligent, physically fit recruits.

You wanna guess what we don't have?

The AF will probably go back to a 5 week basic sometime in the future. They have been 5 weeks before and 2 months too. Lay some of the other stuff into Tech School. Maybe when the "War on Terror is done. The other services will change as their needs change.

there is a REASON that AF BMT is no longer 6 weeks and is now 8-9 weeks in line with the Army, Navy and CG.

just be thankful it isn't 13 like the Marines.

"Week 0-5 is drill mashed into your skulls until you master it,"

    LMAO-

Dude, I worked on the underground power at Lackland on the BMT side. Your "Mastery" of drill would have Gunny Mulligan choking on his Redman.

And yes David- I was the guy on the backhoe.

Your BMT was to get you into the mindset of the AF and to learn how they do things.
