My employer paid me with a bounced check?

Lately I have been hearing my coworkers complaining about problems with their checks. But yesterday I got a letter from my bank stating that the check I cashed was not valid and they have removed that money from my savings account. They sent me a copy of the check which I can deposit to get the money back but if I cash it and there are no funds, then they will take away more money from my account. So I just wanted to know if I can call their bank to verify that there are funds in their account? I know if I ask my employer they are just going to lie to me. If I call their bank before I cash their chscks, will they be able to tell me if there are funds in my employer's account or not? Do I just give them the check number or what information do I need? Tha bank is closed for the weekend and will be opened until Monday so I want to know my options before I call.

Tell your employer the check bounced and they need to pay you in cash PLUS the costs that you incurred. You can take the check to their bank and cash it there. They can't tell you the balance and most won't tell you if the check can clear because if all those checks come in at once, they may not all clear.

If they don't make it right, file a complaint with your state labor board. And I would start job hunting. When that happens, unless they didn't get a deposit in on time, it means the company is in financial trouble and you are likely to lose your job.

Take it to your employer and ask for a cash replacement including your bank charge. If he won 't give it to you, report him to the police for fraud and report it to the Dept. of Labor. If he honestly was hoping he would be "in money" by the time you cashed your check, then ask him how many days it will take to have your money. Then, wait a few more days. Meanwhile, start looking for another job.

I suggest you contact the nearest Department of Labor and tell them about your employer paying you with a bad check.
