How do you avoid topics (such as the 2016 Presidential Election) at Thanksgiving. And what are some suggestions to avoid having them brought up at the dinner table in a few weeks.

Sad thing-- there are bloggers and show hosts (both liberal and conservative) giving people pointers of how to push your agenda on your family at Thanksgiving dinner. Ugh, so annoying.
I'd ask everyone ahead of time to keep off the hot-button topics... and if you know a few family members who would agree with you very much, make an agreement early on to quickly change the subject and talk over someone who brings up those topics to derail them.

Send out dining rules to all the guests, that any mention of politics or religion will not be tolerated at Thanksgiving this year during dinner. Anyone trying to ruin the holiday dinner by breaking this rule will have an air horn blasted in their face until they can behave.
Back up your rule by purchasing a couple good air horns and have them displayed in plain sight .
