If people know and understand that holidays are not scriptural, why do they still Lie to their children about them?

I think the problem here is that the parents dont know and understand themselves. With Christmas for example, they observe it because their parents did, and their grandparents. It became a family tradition long ago.

But the biblical truth of the matter is that there are no specific Christian holidays (holy days). In Gods eyes EVERY DAY IS HOLY.

Psa 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

So live every day as you would say Easter or Christmas. Both these days as presently observed are pagan through and through.

In some cases parents may know this to be true but don't want to deprive their children of seasonal festivities. And in that case they love their children more than God. And that violates the first commandment.

And they LIE to their children.

Because not everything we do in life is strictly scriptural - nor is it required to be.

Holidays are short for Holy Days - celebrations of God (or at least they were supposed to be).

Is there a scriptural prohibition for celebrating God? I seem to have missed it.

Does your congregation own a building? Is there scriptural precedent for doing so?

Jesus celebrated the non-scriptural Jewish holy days.

Why does everything have to be scriptural?

Which Scripture tells us to use which Scriptures as Scripture?

I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. (John 16:12-13)

Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours. (2 Thessalonians 2:15)

We instruct you, brothers, in the name of (our) Lord Jesus Christ,to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us. (2 Thessalonians 3:6)

I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditions, just as I handed them on to you. (1 Corinthians 11:2)

The Catholic Church does not use Holy Scripture as the only basis of doctrine. It could not. The early Catholic church existed before and during the time that the New Testament was written.

There were hundreds of Christian writings during the first and second centuries. Which New Testament writings would become official was not fully decided until about 400 C.E.

Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit was guiding the early church (and is guiding the church today) to make the correct choices about things like:

    • The Holy Trinity (which is also only hinted at in the Bible)

    • Going to church on Sunday instead of Saturday (which is actually directly against one of the Ten Commandments)

    • The Communion of Saints

    • Which writings include in the New Testament? And the Bible as a whole?

Things that are even more modern like

    • Slavery is bad. Slavery is never declared evil in the Bible. This was one of the justifications for slavery in the Confederate States.

    • Democracy is good. The Bible states that either God should be the leader of the nation like Israel before the kings or kings should be the leader, "Give to Caesar that which is Caesar's." This was talked about a lot during the American Revolution.

This second source of doctrine is called Apostolic Tradition.

Do Christians who do not allow the continuing guiding force of the Holy Spirit to make their beliefs more and more perfect, still endorse slavery as Colossians 3:22 commands, "Slaves, obey your human masters in everything"?

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 80 and following.

    With love in Christ.

Driving a car is not scriptural, does that mean that Christians should not own or drive automobiles?

A holiday only has the meaning one chooses to give it. If one esteems each day like the next and does not recognize any holidays that is good for them. If another chooses to esteem one day as special and another as not, that is good for them. Bickering and arguing about holidays is trivial and serves no purpose. Do as you desire, and leave others to do as they desire, you are both operating under the liberty that Christ has purchased for us.

All of Christianity is not contained in scripture. Holidays are still Christian. There is no lie.

Some people don't want to be seen as different and they go along with the crowd.

It takes a love of God and boldness to stand up for the truth, not all people are capable of doing that....sadly.

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days

Well if there were scriptural . . . they would still be a lie. So what is the difference really?

Because people (especially religious ones) are idiots.
