I think one of the key things is to be willing to have a laugh. Any one who has been online can spot trolls a mile off and the best way to 'defeat them' is to deprive them of their oxygen - people who answer their questions. Even when people think they are making a valid point you are not providing an answer to someone who rationally wants to consider your point of view. You are just giving them a reason to post more trash.

I often look down the lists of questions and see how the genuine, even quirky ones don't get much, if any response. Whereas clearly troll-like ones or ones where a person is just re-hashing the same questions asked millions of times over, get a load of answers. If 'we' exist as a LGBT community then lets start behaving like one by answering the questions that deserve answering and even throwing in a few curveball questions to get people thinking or smiling.

I wish we had some human moderators who were LGBT so we could deal more effectively with trolls.

    Chocolate cupcakes would be nice.

Source(s): Rainbow sprinkles might add a festive flair but I'm open minded.
